Michèle Flournoy Former Under-Secretary of Defense

Michèle A. Flournoy is Co-Founder and Managing Director of WestExec Advisors, a strategic advisory firm. Previously, she led the Center for a New American Security, where she served as co-founder and President from 2007-2009 and CEO from 2014-2017. Flournoy served as the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy from 2009 to 2012. In the mid-1990s, she served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and Threat Reduction and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy.

Flournoy is a former member of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board and the CIA Director’s External Advisory Board. She is currently a member of the Defense Policy Board and a Senior Fellow at Harvard’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. Flournoy serves on the boards of CSRA, Amida Technology Solutions, The Mission Continues, Spirit of America, and CARE. Flournoy earned degrees from Harvard University and Balliol College, Oxford University.
